Several Hyde Park community leaders and friends of STA served as guest readers during St. Thomas the Apostle’s observance of the 95th Anniversary of Children’s Book Week. Every class from preschool through 8th grade participated in the event designed to celebrate children’s literature and promote a love of reading. Special guests for the week included: Sr. Mary Paul McCaughey, Archdiocesan Superintendent of Schools; Michael Kampe, Walgreens Store Manager; Ben Beshalske, Walgreens Pharmacy Manager; Dr. Carlos Crudup, Hyde Park Family Medicine; Kurt Schweitz, Jazz Musician; Ellen Rosenberg, Interior Design Consultant; Alexandra Wright, Attorney; Emily Nelson, Associate Director of the Chicago Center for Urban Life and Culture; Harry Backlund, Business Manager and Bess Cohen, Education Editor, Southside Weekly; and, Kate Lorenz, Executive Director and Brook Rosini, Marketing & Communications Manager of the Hyde Park Art Center.
