Description: At St. Thomas the Apostle School, God’s Children in Extraordinary Variety are Inspired to Academic Achievement, Instilled with Faith Values, and Involved in a Caring Community.

Enrollment: Over 325 students with an average class size of 19 students.

Test Performance: St. Thomas the Apostle students take the ACT Aspire test in the spring of each year. Students in grades 3 – 8 take this test. STA students generally perform as “ready” on the ACT Aspire standardized test.

Curriculum: Common Core curriculum as required by the State of Illinois and the Archdiocese of Chicago. Additional offerings include: All-Day Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten, University of Chicago’s Everyday Math, FOSS Science, Catholic religion program, Computers, Art, Music, Spanish, Physical Education, Accelerated Reader Program, and Safe Environment Training for children.

Spiritual Growth: Daily Religion Class, Daily Prayers, Mass weekly, Sunday Family Masses throughout the year, Sacramental Preparation, Stations of the Cross, May Crowning, Altar Servers, Lectors and Service Opportunities.

Extracurricular Enrichment: Co-Educational Sports: Flag Football (4th-8th), Basketball (K-8th), Volleyball (5th-8th), and Track (3rd-8th).

After School programs: Gospel Choir, Yoga, Guitar and Piano, Science Club, Cooking Club, Acrobatics, Improv Club, and Chess Club are just a few that have been offered recently. Programs may vary depending on the level of student interest.

Technology: SMART Boards in middle school classrooms. One-to-one Chromebooks in Middle School, 4th grade, and 5th grade. Classroom iPad sets of 10 in Kindergarten – 3rd grades. Updated Computer Lab (2013), mobile wireless laptop computers (K-8), desktop computers in each classroom and library, automated library system, Fast Direct on-line grade reporting, School Messenger parent notification system, Accelerated Reader.
