St. Thomas the Apostle School is pleased to announce the creation of the Frances Y. Wiley Memorial Scholarship Fund in honor of Frances Sumiko Yoshida Wiley, a revered member of the Hyde Park Community and
St. Thomas the Apostle Parish for more than 60 years. Fondly remembered as one of the original “tiger moms,” Frances cared fiercely not only for her own children, but for all of the students at STA. She and her husband were the proud parents of eight children, all of whom attended St. Thomas the Apostle School. St. Thomas youth were the beneficiaries of numerous enrichment programs for art, music and crafts instituted by Mrs. Wiley.
She also shared her gifts and talents with the school by designing and sewing costumes for the annual St. Thomas Players musical and creating exquisite quilts for auction at fundraisers. The Frances Y. Wiley Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established by her family to honor Mrs. Wiley and her devotion to STA. Donations to the fund will be used to assist families experiencing economic hardship or who are in need of emergency financial assistance. Those who share their treasure with St. Thomas the Apostle School through the Frances Y. Wiley Scholarship Fund will continue to promote her legacy of love for the school and its children. Donations can be made online through GiveCentral at www.givecentral.org/ or sent directly to the school at 5467 S. Woodlawn Avenue, Chicago, Illinois, 60615.
