Description: At St. Thomas the Apostle School, God’s Children in Extraordinary Variety are Inspired to Academic Achievement, Instilled with Faith Values, and Involved in a Caring Community.

Enrollment: Over 300 students with an average class size of 18 students.

Test Performance: St. Thomas the Apostle students take the ACT Aspire test in the spring of each year. Students in grades 3 – 8 take this test. STA students generally perform as “ready” on the ACT Aspire standardized test.

Curriculum: Common Core curriculum as required by the State of Illinois and the Archdiocese of Chicago. Additional offerings include: All-Day Preschool and Kindergarten, University of Chicago’s Everyday Math, FOSS Science, Catholic religion program, Computers, Art, Music, Spanish, Physical Education, Accelerated Reader Program, and Safe Environment Training for children.

Spiritual Growth: Daily Religion Class, Daily Prayers, Mass weekly, 4 Sunday Family Masses, Sacramental Preparation, Stations of the Cross, May Crowning, Altar Servers, Lectors and Service Opportunities.

Extracurricular Enrichment: Co-Educational Sports: Flag Football (4th-8th), Basketball (K-8th), Volleyball (5th-8th), and Track (3rd-8th).

After School programs: Gospel Choir, Yoga, Guitar and Piano, Science Club, Cooking Club, Acrobatics, Improv Club, and Chess Club are just a few that have been offered recently. Programs may vary depending on the level of student interest.

Technology: SMART Boards in middle school classrooms. One-to-one Chromebooks in Middle School, 4th grade, and 5th grade. Classroom iPad sets of 10 in Kindergarten – 3rd grades. Updated Computer Lab (2013), mobile wireless laptop computers (K-8), desktop computers in each classroom and library, automated library system, Fast Direct on-line grade reporting, School Messenger parent notification system, Accelerated Reader.

Special Services: Before and After School Care Program, Remedial Reading and Math, Title One Services, Tutoring.
